better things ahead

"And all the host laughed and wept, and in the midst of their merriment and tears the clear voice of a minstrel rose like silver and gold, and all men were hushed. And he sang to them, now in the Elven-tongue, now in the speech of the West, until their hearts, wounded with sweet words, overflowed, and their joy was like swords, and they passed in thought out to regions where pain and delight flow together and tears are the very wine of blessedness." - The Return of the King

How cool are these?? I think I’d like to make some right now..

“Extensive reading..”

Pride and Prejudice is finished. I think it might have to be one of those books I read every year. I like it that much. Now I’ve moved on to this little gem. I picked it up at the library for 25 cents, (aren’t library book sales the best?). It looked vaguely familiar, but I don’t recall ever hearing of it before so who knows? But I figured for 25 cents, I couldn’t really go too wrong. I guess we shall see…

Beginnings..

“At one magical instant in your early childhood, the page of a book—that string of confused, alien ciphers—shivered into meaning. Words spoke to you, gave up their secrets; at that moment, whole universes opened. You became, irrevocably, a reader.” -Alberto Manguel

I’m currently re-reading Pride and Prejudice, and it is refreshingly wonderful. I had forgotten how infinitely superior the book is to both of the wonderful film adaptations. So much gets lost in translation.

I have had to read with a pencil at the ready; Jane Austen was quite the word wizard.
